The best way to remove wallpaper is the use a scraper that has a strong broad blade, and do not get one that is to flexible. If you get a stubborn area of wallpaper then go over it again with a solution and leave it on so that the wallpaper absorbs the solution making it easier to remove. You can also get a scorer that has sharp wheels on it so that it will only score the wallpaper not the wall behind, it helps the water to soak in to make the wallpaper come off easier. You also rent or buy a wallpaper steamer to remove wallpaper.

REMOVING WITH STEAMER
You can buy a wallpaper steamer or you can rent one from a hire shop. Always make sure that you read the instructions first so that you know how to use it. The steamer is the most effective tool for removing wallpaper and if you are trying to remove and abundance of wallpaper it is the best to use, rather that a scraper. Make sure that you wear gloves, goggles and long sleeved clothes when using a steamer. It is best to put warm water in the tank not cold, unless it states to do so in the instructions, then switch the steamer on and wait for it to boil. When the steamer starts to boil put the steamer pad against the wall at your starting point and then leave it against the wall for about a half a minute, then slowly move along the wall stripping the wallpaper off behind the steamer. The easiest way to use a steamer is to hold the steamer pad in you left hand if you are right handed, or your right hand if your left handed and the scrapper in your other hand. |

HOW TO STRIP WALLPAPER FROM TOUGH AREAS
Some rough areas to remove wallpaper is radiators, electrial sockets and light switches. If trying to remove wallpaper from around radiators it is best to take off the radiators from the wall so that you can get behind them, you also can leave them off so that you can wallpaper behind them. Here is how you can do it, isolate the water supply from the radiator by switching the valve off, then drain any water that is in the radiator into a bowl, lastly lift the radiator off the wall mounts. If you can not remove the radiator then scrape as much of the wallpaper off as you can, then use a long roller to push the wallpaper back behind the radiator when you come to decorate the walls. With electric switches and plug sockets make sure that the power is switched off to the area you are working, then loosen the screws and move them a short distance from the wall, then strip the paper away. If you need to use the switch or plug make sure you screw them back into the wall before switching the power on, and do not leave any loose wires. |
