Planning a room
To measure a room, first measure the height of walls. Then measure the length of the walls, measure the room corner to corner to make sure that it is square. |
Add windows, alconves and doors, mark out on your plan which way the doors open; note down the chimney breast and any built in cupboards and write them down in the note pad.
If you need to make a detailed plan write down where all the radiators, pipe work and all the electric outlets are like plugs and light switches.
Making the plan on graph paper Get your graph paper and calculate how big you want the room to be. To scale the paper if your room is 10 m and you have 20 square on your paper then each square would be 0.5 m. So for one square on the graph is equal to 0.5 m square. Drawing the plan on the graph paper use a pencil it makes it easy to rub out and redo. Transfer you're measurement off you're note pad to the graph paper start with the length of the walls, remember to scale them to the size of the graph paper, then the width of the walls. Sometimes it is best to do the outside wall first, remember to add the chimney breast, and then start to do the inside wall. |
Once all that is done put the door, remember to mark out which way the door goes, windows, radiators, plug sockets and pipe work.
Now is the time to put in the furniture The best thing to is to measure all the big furniture, the lengths and the width, then get your card and put your measurement down you don’t have to make it anexact model just as long as it is about the right size, then cut them out. |
When you have done all you can place them on the graph paper and place them were you what them to be. If it is a new piece of furniture check the height of it to make sure it will go in the room. |
Now is the Time to put it all together If you have done everything right, you can now place the furniture around the room the way you like. Make sure that the door will open and close and not bang into the furniture and damage it, also that you do not block any off the plug sockets. |
